How did you get through that rock scramble while wearing treadless old sneakers in the winter? Dad and I worried about that in retrospect even though we knew you made it, giant log and all. In her new book, Tina Fey talks about climbing Old Rag at night, with no water, accompanied by two horrible guys – one of whom fell over the edge but was not killed.

When we hiked Old Rag in January Evan and I took turns carrying a sizable log back almost the entire descent.

Happy to do a little cleaning in between making a salad and chicken – happy to be out of hotels (even good Best Westerns – with yes, a fluffy duvet) and able to putter around a lovely home! Thanks Jen, Chris, Hugh and Malcolm! It was great to see you all, even for too-brief a time.

Yes, they really cleaned the refrigerator! Even my teenage boys commented on how clean and shiny the exterior was which only proves how horribly smudged it must have been. I think they did the inside too but I’m not sure, since I did that part myself not long before we left. I will suggest they visit schools near Dallas assuming there are good girls lacrosse teams.
Bear Grills would also have found shelter inside a drowned animal’s carcass. That guy is starting to really push the boundaries.

Bear Grills would have enjoyed your cabin after first climbing to the top of a tree to scout the situation then fashioning a raft from trees he felled with his teeth.

No doubt the PATC political elite were sitting safely in their Georgetown condos, sipping chardonnay (probably from a Red state), watching the weather channel and tweeting their concerns to other PATC hoi polloi. No doubt also that some PATC patsies pay their dues with Pay Pal. The Reynolds keep it real. Busting trail. Bushwacking. Boots on the ground. Who-ya!
