Well, other than the original age old questions, now we have technology to add a whole new crop of them. Cell phones, texting, laptops. Our newest is Facebook. All the others have been answered, 6th grade for us, but we haven't made a Facebook decision as of yet.

Around here, btw, the Age question is most often: What age do you need to be to get a Cell Phone? Middle School (6th grade) has been the answer up until now, and we're sticking with it pretty hard (although my daughter is asking ... does "Middle School" start in the summer, after you graduate from from the 5th grade, or does she have to wail all the way until September to get her phone ...

who the heck knows. when the kids start to get grossed out I guess it's time to make them sleep on the floor.

And believe you me, they will get grossed out.

Miss you

Funny you should bring this up. Rob and I have been bunking with the kids for weeks now while our bedroom is still in construction mode. Abby and I are both sleeping on twin mattresses on her floor, and Rob is sleeping in Ian's double bed with him.

Just the other night Rob said that when he got into bed Ian was still just a slightly awake, and Ian totally spooned him (in a sweet, not creepy way). We both remarked how short-lived that level of togetherness will be.

So that's my advice - when the kid starts to think it's weird or balks at the idea, then it's time to say no go. I can't imagine a 15 year-old spooning his dad or being willing to share a bed with mom!

I don't have an answer. I do remember three was the age when the boys no longer were allowed in the bathroom with me. If someone disagrees, then I say they didn't raise two boys. End of discussion. We used to laugh at our older teen son, when we went to hotels. He would not share a bed with his brother (tho he did share a rm at home/w bunk-beds), he would drag the comforter off and roll onto the floor (eww)..which grossed me out. Meanwhile his younger sib would say 'works for me' as he had a big bed all to himself. See I told you I didn't have an answer.

Why do you do this to me? I tried to respond quickly and concisely ... but it turned into a blog post. Go see my blog for a VERY LONG and INVOLVED response ...

And to think ... I already had a post planned for today ... in response to Well Read Hostess ... LOL! I'll probably do that one tonight.

Obviously a personal thing (and no judgement here at all!)- but I'd tell them tough noogies - you two sleep together or you both sleep on the floor! 10 & 12 does seem a bit old to sleep with Mom (unless they are sick when all bets are off). Its really a size thing. Mine, at 6, is pretty much too big to sleep with without major body contact, which does feel creepy. I guess a distinction is - does he feel its creepy? My son has started laughing if he brushes against me or catches me changing - clearly its time to set some boundries there. I stopped showering with him or getting in the tub with him about a year or so ago, unless we have on bathing suits. Its so hard to see when they've gooten "too" old. Its up to you to know your child.

When we travel and only want to reserve one hotel room, our older son gets the other queen bed and our younger son gets a cot (worth the extra $25) or a very comfortable set-up of bedspread, comforter, pillows and blankets on the floor. Whatever the hotel is willing to supply.
We have even packed a lightweight inflatable mattress for him at times.

If I remember clearly, my cut-off was age 7.

I think we've reached the point where even Malcolm has aged out of trick-or-treating. Previously, that was our Age Old Question.
