I sent my 7th grader to Australia for three weeks this summer as a student ambassador and my husband/son away for 9 days on a bike trip…then sent both kids to SC with their grandparents for an additional week in August and I felt the exact. same. way. Thank you for putting into words what I was feeling, and what I got horrified looks for when I actually said so.

Go you for admitting it! I don’t think loving someone means having to be around them all the time. I’m sure your boys will benefit from having a Mother who gives them freedom and space and has a rich, full life of her own. You’re being a good female role model for your boys and I bet their future partners will thank you for raising them to be independent.

Four weeks, you are absolutely in the right frame of mind. If you were talking the full seven, trust me, you would be missing them. It’s still about as long as I can go with a 25 and 22 (almost) year old. Very lucky they are both on the East Coast!
