And almost 10 years later it's much worse! We rebelled in our local troop. We sourced local organic Maple syrup at wholesale price, labeled it ourselves and sold it for a just a few dollars more than equivalent at a grocery store. Smashing success without the embarrassing pricing ($25 bag in Canada now!!!) There are better options than the dreaded Scout popcorn.

My firm bought $200 worth of this stuff to support the scout of a firm client. We asked to have the order shipped to us. Never arrived. And no way to contact trails end to complain about or track the failed delivery. As far as I’m concerned this is a big fraud and borders on out right theft. They charge the credit card for $200 and delivered nothing. Not even the crappy popcorn other people have complained about. The fraudulent nature of this scam is disclosed by the total lack of any means to contact trails end to complain. No phone number, no email address, no link on the website. Trails and is obviously aware of the scam it is running and hopes to avoid responsibility by making it impossible for anyone to reach them to inquire about the status of an order that they have chosen not to fill because it is not local to where the popcorn was sold.

BSA and a company called trails end are selling popcorn at 7X retail value. The boy scout's are supposed to be thrifty, this is pulling a fast one.

Sales outside stores start @ $10 for a small bag of caramel corn or $15 for a bag of cheese popcorn claiming 73% goes to BSA and of that 35% to local pack.

Then they have an app where scouts are to sell to their family and friends where the smallest bag of plain popcorn is $25 and a bag of cheese popcorn is $30 and it goes up from there. I can email you the link.

This is a National program whereby 1 bag of popcorn generates $6.75 in revenue for trails end who manages the fundraiser.

Omg! Went to the local Fresh Market yesterday. Coming out I was practically screamed at by a 8 year old Cubscout to buy his popcorn. Cute, not. But I figured I'd help the kid out. Until I looked at the price of one bag of popcorn. $25!!?? Are they freaking kidding me!? I asked if they had anything for $5. To which the kid's father held up a tiny bag of jerky for $10. Me thinks not. Told them I wasn't prepared to pay that much for ANY of their items I left telling the father that I remember when girlscout cookies were $3 a box.

The Cubscouts have some nerve trying to sell popcorn for that much. I could have bought a dinner for four at the market for that price. Smh

I just purchased an 11oz bag of caramel popcorn for $11.00! Why do girl scouts sell a nice size box of cookies for $5, but the boy scouts rip you off?

I feel sorry for the the boys, but i will no longer support their organization at these prices. The boys need to learn that just because they are so cute in their uniforms, people work hard for their money.

Sept. 28, 2019 -
Bought a bag of $20 popcorn in front of Safeway in Soldotna, Alaska, yesterday. Love helping the Boy Scouts but felt completely ripped-off. Especially after busting them open to find out they were old and stale. Would have felt better just giving them a donation of $20 and not getting the crappy popcorn. Not a good practice teaching kids to grift by making them sell inferior items at overinflated prices. There are more wholesome and fairer ways to make money that people won't be left feeling scammed like we were. When driving out of the parking lot we weren't sure if what just happened was legit. We had concerns that we were conned. That's just sad. Have never felt that way buying Girl Scout Cookies.

Thank you for writing your frank and very sincere letter! I went to Lowe's and outside a cute Boy Scout asked me if I wanted to buy his popcorn. I thought "why not?" so I asked him the prices and the popcorn price was $25.00 and the cheapest bag he sold was $20.00. I really felt bad for the boy and angry that he has to be rejected by shoppers who cannot make that type of donation. I was prepared to buy it for $10.00 but not $25. My heart went out to this little boy as he did a wonderful job presenting his product only to be rejected. I hate the way this organization sets these kids up for failure, it hurts their self-esteem as they cannot understand yet the value of money and why passers by have to tell them "no". I heard the little guy exclaim "We've been here all morning and haven't
sold a thing!" There's something really wrong with your business model-you could learn something from the Girl Scouts. If I see these kids again-I will just give them money as others have posted.

Thank you! The question is are they going to do something about it?

The prices are outrageous . All my purchase was one thing and I felt really guilty about it because I couldn’t afford to purchase more since it’s so expensive.
Girl Scout cookies are five dollars a box that is a lot and I mean a lot less than what you guys are charging.

As the only voice of dissent about selling popcorn in my pack, this post is uplifting to me! Last year, new to scouts, my son sold popcorn to the 3 families we know who we could actually sell to, comfortably. In order to prevent my son appearing under-represented, I sprung $90 on this crap, only to find that he/the pack would not even see HALF of the profit. I'm a single mom, with one income. $90 for popcorn and coffee is about the most ABSURD purchase I could ever, and have ever, made in my adult life. And yet, I'm the only one in my pack leadership who doesn't approve of selling popcorn. Furthermore, I can't believe people are going to be sacrificing all of their weekends for this cause. Isn't a large part of scouting about spending quality family time? Sales is not quality family time. Cut out the middle man and set aside $100 for your child's scouting adventures. That way he (or she, now) will benefit from 100% of the money, rather than what's left of some cut of the popcorn company's profit. Absolute ripoff.

The first email started in October 2010. It's October 2018, and this still continues. I purchased $10.00 caramel popcorn from the Boy Scouts today at in front of the local grocery store. It was outrageously overpriced, but I bought it because I wanted to support the scouts who were selling them. But really, the organization needs to change the strategies of fundraising. Change the pricing. Do something different. Nobody really wants to spend $10.00 for a bag of popcorn. Please, learn from the Girl Scout cookies fundraising, why they are so successful.
