Well - the good news is that at least I now know I'm not the only one whose husband thinks along these lines. The bad news is that my husband once used eerily similar words to me (i.e., you're not MY mother) and, had I been just the teensiest bit pre-mentrual when said statement occurred, he might not be here today to have the option to give me a gift or not. Just kidding . . . sort of.

Happy belated Mother's Day! (Even though you are not my mother).

We're totally with you here. My husband and I don't "do" Mothers/Fathers days around here. His family is way, way in to it, though, so I host brunch for his parents and multiple sisters. They care, I don't, and there isn't shopping involved (especially since I always forget about the cards--damn!) so it's a fine holiday to host, because it isn't a day I'd want to be spending any other particular way.
Lucky you, to spend such a gorgeous day with so many moms (your own, and your siblings/in law) and enjoy. Thanks for the photos!

I'm not a holiday person, so I'm biased against holidays in general, and Hallmark holidays in particular. I think that these sorts of holidays set up unrealistic expectations. Also, I'd prefer that my husband and baby appreciate me daily, than buying me a card and a gift on a pre-determined day (although I understand that with Jackson being five weeks old, I've got a long way to go before he appreciates me for anything other than the breastmilk). Like I've said to my husband vis-a-vis Valentines Day - you can't treat me poorly for 364 days of the year, and then buy me a box of chocolates and some roses one day out of the year, and expect me to be happy about it.

I loved seeing the pictures of your beautiful family (although there are a couple of extra non-related kids in there, correct?). I do see your point about honoring our mothers and not making it a "wife's day", but I have to admit that I love the ONE day a year that I don't get up with the kids and dog and can do WHATEVER I want (at least for the morning!!!)
