I admire that completely and agree that money shouldn't be thrown around recklessly. However, I think huge numbers of people get very anxious negotiating car prices because the setting is so high-pressure and the system seems rigged. Wasn't it Saturn that tried to sell cars for exactly what the sticker said? I had some very grateful single female friends who would buy only from a Saturn dealership. One of the most fun experiences I ever had was buying my 1987 BMW and telling three vendors (not dealers) that I would buy the car from whoever gave me the lowest price that day. I say let the big three fail (but not the retirement plans), they had plenty of time to figure out how to make a car people want to buy. Any government bailout should have all sorts of strings attached related to producing more fuel efficient cars. I agree! I hate negotiating price!
