Yes! Doubled up final consonants are very Missouri. Others families in town included Sapp and Butt and Duff. The last two are synonyms.

As for the Missouri rule:

(a) With the names Hamm, Crabb and Pitt, I'm surprised the trio didn't get to do a walk-on in "Julie and Julia." (Or form a law firm specializing in suits against the FDA.)

(b) And shouldn't the rule be amended to include doubled-up final consonants as well?

I'm just sayin'

I just drove past a row of shops in West Philadelphia selling Muslim Clothing and Islamic Wear. It was tempting to see if they had burkhinis.
I went to Denison in Ohio but my brother went to MU-Columbia, as did lots of my friends - and you and your co-blogger, I've learned!

When I was in Turkey last August, we went to the beach and it was scorching hot and humid out. It didn't stop one woman from swimming, covered from head to toe. The fabric hung in giant sheets around her, making swimming difficult -- she totally could have used a burkhini! I think they're really neat.

Did you go to MU - Columbia, Jennifer?
