In the tagline of a co-worker’s e-mail – the tag line that goes out to EVERYONE because it is attached to the signature. “Thanks for being apart of the M&T team!” This is so bad that it almost counts as a paradox. Are you a part of the team, or apart from the team? I almost can’t tell… Maybe that’s a hint of impending layoffs.

Your post reminded me of a comedy routine (I can’t remember which comedian) which noted the availability of braille menus at the drive through window at McDonald’s (no way will you get me to type drive thru).

My favorite sign though, was one in St. Louis, it was huge, posted in front of a strip shopping center:
“Beauty suppies and hip hop fashons”

All great examples! You’ve given me enough material for several more posts, thank you. And Momkat, I am impressed that you corrected your “mis-steak” which I did not even catch on first reading. And you know how picky I am!

Just remembered a favorite typo in a brochure for the Senior Games. Some old codger was going to demonstrate “marital arts.” I wonder how many people signed up for that activity?

Okay, I know this doesn’t fit exactly, but I have been looking for a place to share this, so here goes: in front of the nursing home across the street from my house is a large sign that reads: “Grief Support Group – Canceled.”

I guess the grieving are out of luck – yet again.

My favorite of all time was a flyer for a car show locally last summer … Among other things, it advertized:

“Free Plagues for the first 125 entrants”

Free Plagues? “Plaques” is spelled with a -Q-, folks! I decided I probably wouldn’t call my father-in-law to enter his car … my kids bring in enough plagues already!

I once saw a hoagie shop in South Philadelphia advertise in their window, “Stake Sandwiches.” Bring your hacksaw, I guess. At least yours are just typos. The widespread apparently invisible difference between “its” and “it’s” will someday drive me totally over the edge.

Jennifer, I am right there with you. Ask Em– grammar and spelling mistakes REALLY bug me. Just the other day, my daughter had to physically restrain me when the sign at her gymnastics practice said, “Have you signed you’re daughter up for the next session?” YOU’RE??? REALLY??
So, I have to admit, that Ivory Black seemed like a contradiction to me as well. (My daughter and I paint.) I looked it up once. It is called such because the pigment comes from burning bones. And that opens another non-grammatical can of worms because my daughter tries to avoid animal products.
