Ditto everyone else, hope you've already made that appointment. But this raises a question, when we're so used to mothering those around us, we lack someone who will force us into doing something we know we should, like take the anti-biotics to the end of the course, go to the dentist/eye doctor/mammogram ....[fill in the blanks!] We take on the interim parent role for our hubbies but they don't always do the same for us.

Once, a co-worker had a really painful shoulder but she was trying to tough it out because her boss had a document to get out. I know her well enough that I could see she was in really bad pain. So I did the "mummy" thing and walked into see her boss and said, "look, J. is in pain and needs to go home, that's ok isn't it?" He found he couldn't really say no. Then I called Personnel Dept and got authorization to call a taxi to take her to the train station (she had a direct train but a bus trip would have been painful), and she went straight to her Dr.
The Dr signed her off for a month because of a trapped nerve, so it wasn't as if it was a minor thing, and although J. was pretty embarrassed by my "mummy" tactics at the time, afterwards she thanked me for having "interfered"!

Em, you maybe need an "eye condition buddy" who will make sure you get to the Dr and who can actually pick up the phone and make the appointment if you won't get round to it yourself. (Mo's mum sounds perfect LOL)

Well maybe I should make sure I call my Ob Gyn today to schedule that check up LOL...

Emily--Think of it this way...if you don't get your eye checked out ASAP you could really mess up the Bar Mitzvah weekend. And we are really looking forward to that. So get off your duff (as my husband says) and make that appointment right away! PS. We have drs here in the DC area too, you know, and we can get you in if there is ever an emergency...just sayin'

I hope your ambiguous sentence ("I will make an appointment to get it all checked out when I get back from DC") meant, "I am calling the doctor's office RIGHT NOW so the first thing I do when I get off the train from DC is go to the office and have my eye checked." Yes????

Yes, you must march directly to the doctor as soon as you get back. Speaking as someone who was in the hospital two days before my husband's 50th birthday bash, you do NOT want to be out of commission a minute longer than necessary. Keep us posted.
