Funny, when I tell people where i live, they’re all, “Huh? Where? (Rutledge) so now I either tell them between Nifty Fifties and Tarzhay or I tell them Swarthmore. its’ just easier.

I live on Colgate (sometimes referred to as toothpaste gulch) in College Park addition. We, also, have Yale, Harvard and many other elites. But mainly we are referred to as being near the Sinclair station on Stadium.

Okay, I’m guilty of sometimes writing for real estate developers, and yes, I have been asked over the years to come up with those “aspirational” names for housing developments, as well as the overly elegant brochure copy! My favorite was the client who wanted all the ritzy home models to be named after famous golf courses around the world — the Turnberry was one model — so of course you’d think they were hoping to attract affluent golfer types. Here’s the hysterical part: the development didn’t feature a golf course, nor was it near one. Shamelessly, my brochure headline was “The course your life has taken.”
