We had a similar conversation last night when by special request we had Sloppy Joe's made with a can of sauce from a brand named Manwich! The boys questioned the Manwich label but then agreed Sloppy Joe's are not a typical girl food. I go both ways and my appetite is at least 2x that of my husbands on a frequency adjusted basis. I tend to have one big meal-dinner. He has 6-8 mini-meals. He always underestimates the quantity required for our family, including ravenous 13 and 9 year old boys. Last time he bought two half chicken breasts for our family of four I made him eat something else. And once he bought half a cake at the bakery to serve for a dinner party of 12!

Weight in is right...totally unfair that ManFood is 10x better than Chick Food and is 10x (at least) worse for you...and your ass. And by "your" of course, I mean, "MY."

This post was dancing through my head today as I was polishing off a double double cheeseburger today at In and Out Burger (while my husband was at Safeway grocery shopping)

I must admit that I am an equal opportunity eater!

Beer's OK (since I am at St. Louisan and AB is sort of a birthright),but I much prefer wine now that I am in California.

Honestly, I have never thought of food in gender terms. But now that you said it, you are absolutely correct! I admit - I am a beer drinker. And also, I would rather drink it out of the bottle. I drink wine (and don't complain), but would really rather a beer. I am old enough not to care too much what people think. (Though when I am dressed up, I usually have wine. Somehow it is inappropriate to drink beer in a dress).

My husband truly believes that a chef salad with Russian dressing is diet food. If I did triathalons like some people I know, I could eat man food all the time. Sadly, I don't, so I can't.

Well of course there was once a book called Real Men Don't Eat Quiche. Please don't tell Malcolm because this is one of his favorite foods. And he started a mini-craze at his middle school lunch table when he brought a slice of quiche wrapped in foil instead of a sandwich!

As a native upstate New Yorker, I ADORE chicken wings, especially if they require me to lick my fingers, but they must be served with blue cheese dressing and tons of celery (a side of woman food?). I also fell in love with cheesesteaks while living in Philly years ago but they just aren't as good anywhere else so I don't eat them anymore.

While I otherwise dine almost solely from the woman food menu, I'll take ice cream over sorbet any day...and don't come near me with a Tofu Pup at Fenway Park!

Unabashed gender stereotyping? Yes. Totally spot-on generalization? Absolutely! You've hit the nail on the head here, Emily. I would add that ANY salad -- except maybe a fried chicken salad -- is "woman food." Personally, most of the time I prefer "woman food" (soup is a woman food, chili is not). Although, I do love a good steak from time to time (must be small and ridiculously tender, though). And spaghetti and meatballs. And fried chicken. Oh, an I LOVE dessert. When the other women at my table demure when the waiter asks, "Is anyone interested in dessert?" I always exclaim, "Of course!" Although, I tend to prefer fruit-based desserts (woman) to cream- or chocolate-based desserts (man). This is really complicated.
