My first concert was the Grateful Dead in 1979 with my brother taking me. I was 13 years old and it began a life long love of seeing live concerts.
Since then I have seen many more great acts including the Dead over 40 times.

I did take my teen age daughter and son to their first concert a few years ago when we went to see Tom Petty. It was fun getting to share that with them and definitely something my parents would have done with me.

Great story and brought back some good memories.

Wonderful story. And wonderfully cool parents. Also, love that Noah is still rocking his "hat kid" look!

Bob Dylan at the (no longer in existence) New Haven Coliseum. Love all the stoked faces (and Noah's existential rocker sulk)!

Bobby McFerrin
Then Arlo Guthrie and then the Indigo Girls.
You are awesome, I love this - what a great experience for the boys. Amelia hasn't been to a concert yet other than the Wiggles but she's angling for Taylor Swift (I explained to her that Miley Cyrus wears shorts that are so short you can see her cheeks and she said that she might not want to see that, hahaha) or Zac Brown (I love my daughter!) ... of course, I'm sure she'd love Lady Gaga, Sugarland, Gwen Stefani, or Blondie as well. She has good taste in music :)

We have an amazing outdoor theater here in Saratoga and two years ago they offered a 'lawn pack' of tickets for a hundred bucks. Four tickets to see Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, with Matt Kearney (new at the time) opening. Jeff and I took two of our kids (middle school ages) and had the BEST time sharing in the experience together. Once we were all spread out on our blanket the young couple in front of us turned around and said hello. When they found out our kids had come with their parents (gasp!) their first comment was, "So cool! I wish our parents had taken us to rock concerts!" Made me feel like we got points of some kind. :)
And I am also the mama bear in situations like that, which terrifies my overly polite husband. That comment made me laugh!

Can you believe my first concert was the BEATLES. I was five years old and we flew to Las Vegas to see them on tour. I stood on my chair and screamed "I Love you PAUL!"

Sonny and Cher at the New York State Fair in 1972. I was six. My parents loved the show, but I couldn't wait for it to end so we could go see Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl in the 4H Hall. Go figure!

Very cool.

My first was the Doobie Brothers, with my older brother as chaperone, also at the Mann. (I suppose I could google to find out the year, but then I would lose the rest of the afternoon to weeping on my desk and rending my garments, so I'll skip it.)

Gosh, I hope attending rock concerts with one's children isn't what makes you tuned into them. We never did a rock concert, that I recall; many other memory producing events such a live theater, the circus. globtrotters and Tanglewood. Families just need to keep making wonderful memories together. Do lobster dinners count??

This is so lame: I went to an AMY GRANT concert. I should state for the record that, then as of now, I was not into Christian rock. Amy Grant had one mainstream hit at the time ("Baby, Baby"), so I figured she was a cool artist. I was SHOCKED when I got to the concert and discovered it filled with Christian rock tunes -- she only played "Baby, Baby" at the VERY END. A really disappointing experience for me. I went with my then-best friend. I'm sure someone's parents dropped us off and picked us up later. Yours sounds like a much cooler experience. I hope I'm a cool mom like you.
