No. I moved to New England because I had to get out of Ohio. After both high school and college there, I really wanted a change. I almost chose Northwestern for my college experience. Then I might have been ready to return and spend the rest of my days in Ohio. But friends at Boston College desperately wanted me to share their apartment(rent). NY would have been better for my aspirations in advertising, but no one in NY was recruiting me like my BC friend. Twenty-eight years later and still in Massachusetts, I have pondered what my ad career might have been like had I at least punched my ticket in the NY ad world.

Sarah, that is a hilariously cliched WASP recipe! Is this why you moved to New England? And Dave, is this why you left Rhode Island?

Thank you for the recipe. Here's another ketchup recipe, from New England. My friends' parents are Old Yankee types, who are old now, yet have dressed like old people all their lives. These Old Yankees are very frugal, not gourmet, voracious consumers of cocktails. A favorite phrase is... it's five o'clock somewhere! They belong to groups with names like the SOBs (Salty Old Boaters)and they are still wearing their first pair of topsiders. Anyway, when friends drop in for drinks, you can always be ready with this: spread peanut butter on a ritz cracker and top with a dab of ketchup. Try one with your next Nasty Stewardess (or, not).

Granted I like the sound of a recipe called "The Nasty Stewardess" but I'm afraid my chicken recipe isn't anything close to that. Anyway.... here's the recipe for all you MOB's that have in-laws that put ketchup on everything anyway...

- Mix 1 Cup Ketchup and 1 cup Coke or Pepsi (your preference).
- Marinate the chicken for 1/2 hour or more.
- Reserve the marinade and
- Bake (or grill)... I'll let you figure this part out..
- Meanwhile, cook the marinade until it reduces then continue to baste the chicken as you cook...

That's basically it!
The recipe actually came out of the cookbook "Kids Cook 1-2-3" which I recently bought at Williams-Sonoma.

Bon Apettite!

First I'll admit i'm procrastinating. Anything to delay a Saturday trip to the town Transfer Station -- my children call it that, I call it the dump....
I did a search for Stewardess Recipe. It turned up a cocktail called the Nasty Stewardess, but nothing with chicken or coke. I perservered. Found this desperate plea "Please help me, I've lost my recipe for chicken, apricot jam, Russian dressing and Lipton Onion Soup MiX! She (or he) got lots of recipes with variations including pineapple and green peppers, but none mention any COLA or stewardesses. (In case you were wondering.) Now I'm off to the dump..

Sarah, that sounds like my speed of cooking....but I haven't heard of the Stewardess Recipe, let alone tried it. And I'm pretty sure Dave means that yes, he cooks the chicken with a sauce of Pepsi mixed with ketchup.

Is ketchup and Pepsi a sauce, or is Pepsi your beverage? I remember a chicken recipe with apricot preserves and Thousand Island dressing and Coke! It was known as the un-PC "That Stewardess Recipe." Many recommended it, but I never mustered the courage to try. (Were they just bsing me, or has anyone tried it?)
