Yes, the sewing machine is turqoise! I'm torn between using this great old vintage hulk or learning on a new, light, computer-y model that doesn't have the old bobbin-snarling problems of yore.

If you learn to sew I will pat you on the back...then sigh that I lost yet another one friends to the sewing machine. I have so many wonderful vtg linens as you know and how I long to turn them into pillows or something. Let us know how you do. If you graduate to slip-covers..well, then I really will wail ;)
btw is that machine turquoise? Its a cutie!

I'll have to loan you back some of the sewing books you've given me--seeing as I can never find the time unless it's an emergency (curtains torn in the wash, e.g.!). I am hoping to cover the couch one day soon--if Glenn and I can ever settle on a fabric we can live with--though I admit, I will definitely need my mom to help me!

You might like the Elna that has sat unused for years. I no longer could transport but maybe Jim could in his new SUV.

Hey Elizabeth - The fabric was vintage stuff that I found on eBay, and sold to someone in France via etsy. Someone should really reproduce it. Maybe me, in my next career.

Sounds very Life in Pencil, Jennifer :) I LOVE that vintage fabric with the blue and white boys and girls and the partridges. Where do I get it?! My mother tried to teach me to sew once, too, at about the same age, but only when I asked her to. She said, "I don't think that's such a good idea," knowing my penchant for impatience. She was right. We fought like cats and dogs, and in the end SHE finished the dress we were working on together, which was too small by the time it was finally finished. That should give you a sense of just how LONG it took.
