Yes, I agree with Lindsay: most lies are by omission, especially as you age.
I lied a lot as a kid. Glad to know it was just because I was gifted.;) lol!

As you know, I have one obviously creative genuis and another sly lier. I still ask for absolute honesty on demand for the big things. I think I am still getting the truth in these circumstances which allowed me to advocate in the Principal's office and be proven correct! Most of the lies are by omission-don't ask, don't tell!

I have a friend, P., who I work out with regularly, and P. invited her friend, A., to join us. After P. touted the class for months, A. told P. that she liked the class and that she'd join us the following week. P. was mad the following Monday when A. didn't show, and said she heard through the grapevine that A. was telling people she really didn't like the class at all. "Why did she feel like she had to lie?" "Because," I said, "people lie about these kinds of things all the time. She probably didn't want to hurt your feelings, since you like it so much."

I am generally with you on the acceptance of little white lies but the littler, the better. There is aboslutely nothing worse than getting caught in a lie -- and really no good response except to apologize profusely and maybe offer a reason as to why you lied being sure to cite your horrible shortcomings as a person who does not deal well with conflict, or something like that. For that reason alone, I try not to lie about things where the probably of getting caught is great than 20 percent.
