Let them have long hair, but photoshop out the locks in the family photos. I understand this technique has been used for your hippie hubby

OK...I confess...after hearing Dave talk more than once about how our Mom always asks him when he's getting his hair cut (sorry Mom... but see above comment!), I must disclose that when we last visited with you in April, my first (maybe 2nd)thought upon seeing my brother was "What's with the hair?" That said, I say leave the boys alone (all 3 of them). It's just hair! And if it's REALLY bugging you, keep in mind that I'm the mother of a daughter...and I know how to braid! :)

Pick your battles. My now grown up boys never had the trendy long hair thing, and somehow the mo-hawk or blue hair.. however I did have my hair problems. Like the time my oldest shaved his head right before his brother's high school grad nite. I was talking on the phone and screamed when he came into the house. Or the year my oldest said he was celebrating November, i.e. grew a horrible scruffy beard, he called it No-VEM-beard. That year he volunteered for a stint in the Red Cross/Hurricane Katrina and not to be rude, but he looked like he needed more help then anyone I saw on the news. I still have his I.D. badge to prove it. He found this all hilarious. The 2nd time he went to Africa/Swasi Land, he got his hair cut in this barbershop i.e. holey tent..the barber had the most beautiful face. I was so happy I didn't see this hair-cut happen tho, worried about sharp scissors? and germs etc.

I promise I will not "Tut-tut". My unspoken comments (and spoken) stop with your sibs and you. My grandchildren are perfect and adorable no matter what look they choose!

I completely agree with QueenBee. Save the battles for permanent body modification, cigarettes, drinking and more. Furthering my sympathy for boys wanting long hair is the fact that some of them will, decades from now, go bald - why not let them enjoy their locks while they can? Just be strong when you see the grandmothers and hear their tut-tutting.

NOT worth fighting! Let them make their own decisions on their outward appearance, especially in a look as menial as their hair. Once they get to wanting to pierce their cheeks or tattoo their faces or whatever fad is cool at the time, we can reconsider. My three year old has crazy, tangly, blond, curly afro and WILL NOT cut it. I love it, though, it makes him unique.
