James, Jamie and Jim are three names with entirely different personas. Adrian and Andrew are both nice, but Adrian is definitely cooler.

My mom considered calling my brother Adrian (yes, she's English), Andrew--until she heard a (Boston-bread) neighbor loudly calling her son AYNDEE and decided she couldn't live with an AYNDEE in the house!

My brother James (grew up a "Jamie") started being called Jim by his friends in high school (hard to mispronounce that one) but is was so unfamiliar that the first few times people would call and ask for "Jim" I told them they had the wrong number!

When you teach young children in Philadelphia you learn all of the phonetic strangeness of the Philadelphia accent. There is this word; Sall -- which is saw. And this one: Shtreet - the name of our former mayor. Then there is coont -- otherise known as couldn't -- and dint -- didn't, etc. That's all I can think of in the middle of the summer!

Speaking as the name-challenged person I've spent my 49+ years being, "Ewe" has nothing on me. My mom was from Boston and having a Boston accent, she named me Laurie (pronounced LAW-REE, you know, with them emphasis on LAW.) Two weeks after my birth, we moved to upstate New York, where my name was pronounced LO-REE. Now, add that to my last name, Storey, and you have a real name problem! Of course, I didn't have anything on the kid I went to school with - William Billy. (Yeah, Billy Billy...)

I used to have a co-worker named Hugh and he pronounced it HUGE. You know, because there is a G in it.

He swore that his mom was right and the rest of us were idiots.
