Great insight Emily, I like the way you think!
My take on why Palin was selected is because the Republican Party knows it

I grew up as a Republican, my first vote for president was cast for Nixon. The Republican of today bears no resemblance to the real Republicans of the past. Seems all the party wants to do now is serve the wealthy corporate interests!

Like Jon Stewart, I don't want a president I'd have a beer with. Next time you're at a bar, look up and down - anybody there YOU'D want for president??

I'll go with someone intelligent, considered and optimistic every time. We're back to the issues of abortion rights and gay union? What about the economy???

Save the middle class, please. I don't want to disappear!

I'm a registered Republican and I couldn't agree more. I don't care about the personal challenges her family is dealing with. I don't even mind the eerie resemblance to Peggy Hill and I can always hit the mute button when that screechy voice gets to be too much to handle. But this "every day, hockey mom" image doesn't move me AT ALL. She was a news anchor...so was I. Run my kids' PTA? Check. I'm from a small town and I'm sure I could be mayor. Throw in a year and a half as governor and I'm in! Barack Obama may not have the long track record McCain and Biden have but at least he exudes a confidence and an ability to learn quickly and lead masterfully. She leaves me feeling soooo uninspired. For sure, November will be interesting.

Well said! I too seriously question John McCain's judgment. In a snap decision, after he couldn't lock in Ridge or Lieberman, he chose a running mate with shockingly little experience? As we PR people know, anyone can be portrayed as having a "compelling personal story." I agree completely that such a biographical narrative is not only NOT a selling point, it doesn't qualify anyone to run the country. Being a heartbeat away from the presidency is no small consideration in this case.
