Great post Jessie! I too have an active imagination and have trouble sleeping for days after I watch something that is disturbing or scary. But does that make me stop watching horror flicks? No. Does that make me stop reading books that are gruesome? No.
But does that make me keep away from books/movies that have children suffer? YES. Becoming a mom has had that effect on me. And I agree with Emily. I can totally handle the possibility of my husband hiring an assassin to kill me, but a little baby lost and crying for his parents, or a mom having lost her kid? Oh I am almost crying already.
Will I ever get over this? (Coz I have The Book Thief, The boy in the striped pajamas, Little Face and Room - all lined up in my wishlist!)

Loved this post as I too often imagine the most horrible things transpiring based on what I read. There was a time when I was totally into true crime books -- because that stuff REALLY happened. Once I had kids, my interest mysteriously waned - maybe because the thought of something happening to them was too much to bear whereas I could totally handle the possibility of my husband hiring a hit man to kill me on the Jersey Turnpike... Its also interesting that I have one kid who gets carried away with the possibility of bad stuff -- and one who shrugs it all off. Same birth order as Emma and Phoebs. We really do ruin the first ones, dont we?
