Personally I prefer traditional favorites. I am a meat and potatoes, American fare type of person. I don't like exotic cuisine (though I do like visiting exotic places, I just stick to the hotel food).
My favorite meal growing up was meat loaf and mashed potatoes, with Dutch apple pie for dessert.

I used to love when we would all gather for a picnic in the park.

My mom makes the BEST pumpkin pie. I know its not a summer food, but she would make it anytime we begged for it and sometimes that was in the summer! With a big ole scoop of cold cool whip on top! yummers!

My favorite meal was my my mom's homemade lasagna! She made it only a couple times a year and it was always SO good! My bday is in August and she always made it for my bday as a treat! mmmm Miss it so much!

A family favorite that I share with others is our baked potato bar. Each person takes a naked potato and puts on what they like. Besides the usual suspects (sour cream, chives, bacon), we have diced tomatoes and green chili. Thanks for the contest.

Growing up we liked to freeze our own yogurt. I still do it with dessert flavors now and then. For the most part I am a person who likes to mix things up.

Love your recipe ideas. Looks like you had a solid jury. ;)

Every year, my Italian mother made multiple Irish Soda Breads for me to bring to school, complete with little ones for the bus drivers, music teacher, etc. It's such an easy recipe I have kept up the tradition with my kids, and in our ever-more-homogenized world, it's an opportunity to connect them with their ancestry.

I love to make yogurt and fruit juice popsicles with the kids, just like my mom did when I was young.

I could have lived on cereal (and original blueberry PopTarts) growing up as a kid. I'm still delighted by it, any time of the day or night. My kids follow in my footsteps, and as a side benefit, we all have LOW LOW LOW cholesterol. Love it!
