I’ve seen that shirt before, I think probably at tshithell. com (“where the bad shirts go”) and yeah, it’s meant to be a dirty joke. Duh?

Really, all of you don’t get that? I’m just curious if your son doesn’t get it either, or if he secretly found it more hilarious that you wanted to get him that shirt because it reminded you of his childhood… because THAT is the really, really funny part.

It’s probably the former since he a) told you about it and b) seemed genuinely confused–hence telling you about it. But I don’t think that “innocence” necessarily gives you bragging rights.

So yeah, first reaction if I saw a mom buying that shirt for her kid–why would you encourage a young man to wear something so misogynistic? And yeah, I’m mouthy so I might say something. (Like I won’t hesitate to point out that I think calling someone you don’t know and don’t agree with, a “stupid cow” is sexist and pathetic and shows more about the intelligence of the person posting than the person they’re commenting on.) But if I commented and both mom and kid were clueless… it would just give me a good laugh for the day. So thanks!

I have to agree with you. Even if that’s what Noah was intending (I know it’s not), that woman was STILL out of place to say something. Unless a child is in danger and a parent isn’t around, I don’t think it’s the place of a stranger to parent a kid. If it were me and the dirty thought ran through my mind (it wouldn’t), I would just shake my head and move on with my life. It’s a t-shirt, for Pete’s sake! And in this case especially, the shirt clearly says Kings Island, not Playboy or something! I wish you had been there too!

I love Noah’s comically befuddled expression here – great photo! And that stupid cow is imagining a meaning that is clearly not present on that shirt. Whereas I remember being totally shocked, as a teenager, at the Boone County Fair in Missouri by a T-shirt worn by a scuzzy young man. I can’t tell you what the words said, but the picture showed a cat in a bottle, and I was horrified that a) such a thing would be manufactured and sold and b) anyone would wear it in public.

That woman needs to:
A. Get her mind out of the gutter
B. Develop an inner monologue
C. Go see what her own kids are doing/wearing

Church Ladies are my biggest pet peeve!!! Ahhhhhh! I give you credit for not seeking her out and giving her something REAL to complain about:)

And if you are not hip, neither am I….I am from Jersey for crying out loud and I still would never have gotten anything sexual from that tshirt!

I hope that woman never finds herself on Bourbon Street with the colorful choices there!

Last summer we were at a party, and Declan was wearing a concert t-shirt – I forget which artist. It had a fabulous graphic on the front of a couple kissing. A woman approached my son and said, “can I tell you why you shouldn’t wear that shirt?”, he nodded and she said, “women won’t find it attractive at all”, at which point her husband told her to back off. Later, I saw a Facebook post from my son proudly boasting that “a Cougar tried to pick him up” (!)

The woman who commented usually spends time on the Jersey boardwalks. There is a truly tasteless shirt sold there with a “you must be this tall to ride” riff that is NOT innocent at all. (And of course, my kids who are just now “tall enough to ride” the attractions they want to at the boardwalk parks, don’t get why they can’t have them, which turns my stomach.) If you head to OC or Wildwood this summer, you’ll see it and understand her PTSD (post t-shirt stress disorder) comment.
Funny, back in the 80s on the first band trip ever, we went to Toronto and I bought a navy t-shirt with a lime green grid and a hot pink “Made in Toronto” iron-on design. My mom wouldn’t let me wear it because she thought the slogan might be dirty but neither of us were hip enough to know for sure! Sad.
