Hi Emily! Great post. I'm also a type A who married a type B, and we have one of each in our offspring. Growing up, I never understood people who said that so-and-so is really smart, he just doesn't work hard. I always thought that being smart went hand in hand with the desire/motivation to work hard and achieve (and get others' recognition for it). As a mom, I've had my eyes opened. Sometimes, really intelligent people aren't all that motivated to strive for the highest heights. Shocking! And equally surprising, our Type B child started gravitating toward the other side in high school. So maybe, unlike blood type, it's not a lifelong trait!

Phil is a recovering Type A....I am a Type B who tries to be Type A which just makes you tired. Phoebe is hardcore Type B which makes me more relaxed, but I'm pretty sure if left on our own much longer she might be wearing diapers to high school. Maybe you need to take on a new challenge for yourself...something you haven't done yet....no wait there is nothing left. Ms. Black Belt Ivy League Triathlete. :)

Love this! I too often experience the stress from battling with my more type B than me daughter about ... everything! At least for a few hours after I read this, I could laugh at myself. Until I wondered, wait did she practice the viola, clean her room, study for the quiz... meanwhile, carey and maggie are wondering no such things.

Look. It's great that you've had this epiphany, Em, but just don't let Ben read this blog. He's going to sit on that couch and talk with me about those metaphors until he understands them or we both die trying.

You wants your kids to have choices, right? I did and I drove them crazy. Actually I drove myself crazy. Then you see all these perfect students doing perfectly miraculous things and you panick.

Resillience is the NEW buzz word now. I think it is a great word.

My hubby used to tell me the same thing--"Let them fail!" That's hard to do when you are type A.

But it might just be the best thing for them. in fact I am sure it is. let me know how it goes.

Miss you

I have yet to see any of Ian's work, I assume he's doing it. Every so often it occurs to me that I should ask about it, but then I figure I'll just check the portal and let the numbers speak for themselves. Of course that puts me in reactionary mode. Sheesh.
