I had forgotten most of these. Of course, when I was watching it as a kid, I was so fixated on pointing out every plot line that did not happen in the book, that I probably missed a lot. The one episode burned into my brain is when Mary goes blind. I remember her waking up in bed and screaming when she couldn't see. I still have nightmares about that. Oh my goodness. Loved all the books and have seen every episode dozens of times. the best were the hardships: the blindness, the epidemics, the blizzards. the show jumped the shark when Albert came home and fought off heroin for sure! Emily, have you caught now-comedian Allison Angrim's (a.k.a. "Nellie") "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch" stand-up routine? It's a must-see. And Stephen, your point about the final episode is right on-target...plus it was pretty cool watching the buildings (except the church, which obviously was spared) explode. Also interesting to cast the affable "Path-Mark Man" as the evil railroad titan...that's some impressive acting versatility.
