I want to know more..if this was a book I'd buy it in a heart beat. I'm not kidding..this is the stuff I LOVE. I'd beat up an old lady in the library if she reached for it first...wait..I am an old lady. Okay fair fight. No really I'd buy it and treaure it. My sister's would borrow it. We'd love it! Jennifer...really..I am not joking..only the part about me being an old lady..is 54 an old lady now? My exciting grandparents story is they sold the family farm in ND during the depression, the dust didn't agree with two of them. That is why I am in California. End of story. Okay have I begged enough?

Leslie - They ran an in-town dairy operation - not a farm, exactly - and yes, the family ran it together. Everyone lived in the same general neighborhood. Their section of Mexico City was long ago paved over - my grandmother didn't recognize it when she returned in the 1960s. She kept her Spanish language aptitude all her life. I have the mortgage document for their house - this great piece of parchment in Spanish - and my great-grandmother's journals!

Great story! Just fascinating to hear details of everyday lives from the past. And thanks to Becky! I, too, felt there were unanswered questions. My still unanswered one is what did they do for a living? Did they all live and work together? Thanks so much for mining your family history - it's pure gold!

Hey Becky - Yes, there's a lot to this story. They moved because someone had asthma - climate was the only "cure." I have tons of photos. When the revolution broke out, yes, it was scary. They all fled to Texas, then California. My great-great-grandfather stayed in LA and is buried there. My great-grandfather moved his family yet again, to a ranch in Colorado, where the kids in the photo spent their teenage years. Lots of great stories and photos from everywhere they lived. Stay tuned - when I have no ideas for posts, I'll mine the family history!

This blog makes me so curious. I am unfulfilled. Why did they move to Mexico? How was their exodus? Scary..smooth...did their time there have an impact on your family that is still felt? Do you have more pictures? Great blog Jennifer. Only now I want the book. I loved the picture btw! Also, just the weather change was dramatic.
