I actually LIKE New Year’s Eve. Once I decided that it was much cooler to do nothing except eat good food in pajamas and maybe watch a movie, the pressure was lifted.

And it’s the one holiday that I’m NEVER tempted to throw a party for.

Here’s to seeing more of YOU in 2010.

LOVE Nanci Griffith and that song in particular. My most vivid New Years Eve memory is of smashing a pane of glass in order to open my best friend’s parents’ back door two years a row. It somehow made sense to our very well cocktailed college-aged brains. Not my favorite holiday either…

I’m with Nikki: New Year’s and Valentine’s Day are a tie in my book. For years those are two holidays that I tried to force into a special status. Now, those are two nights that we nearly always spend at home, alone, over a good homemade meal.

New Years is just fine in my book. I despise Valentine’s Day much more… the marketing, the schmaltziness, the red and pink, the idea that you don’t have to express your love 364 days during the year because you did so on 2/14…

I have to vote for Valentine’s Day as my least favorite holiday. I think planned romance is even harder than planned fun. At least fun can come in many forms, but romance is a narrower needle to thread.

Also, thanks for the Nanci Griffith link. I dated a guy in college who loved her, and listened to her a lot then, but had forgotten all about her. It was nice to hear her voice again.

Having gotten engaged on a New Year’s Eve (a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away), I’ve always been fond of the holiday. I agree, however – as long as you’re with good friends and are still awake at midnight, it’s a Happy New Year!!! Have fun down there in Philly!
