I always think of you when I see hydrangeas and love them also! Very surprised to read that Chris identified them for you-thought you had always known and loved them, even before Chris. As you know, I have a poor memory.

Love love love hydrangeas, and they do grow amazingly around here--even the nastiest sections of West Philly have humongous bushes of them with crazy-beautiful flowers.
However, don't belittle your growing talent. I have planted no fewer than five at my house and have yet to see a single bloom after planting. They live, but they do not flower. So you are doing something right!

Yup, camelias. But your 'drangeas are beautiful, and you've inspired me. I'm going to be cutting some (with SHORT stems) this evening.

Maybe we can turn the hydrangea's bad rap around and change their image, with you 30-somethings being fans. Decorating magazines have helped their image. Art directors go through flower crazes, and they all copy each other. In the 80s every magazine showed white tulips. In the 90s it was sunflowers. This decade, it's been all hydrangeas all the time. I wish I'd carried them in my wedding!

Your hydrangeas are gorgeous. They are the only thing that I can grow other than hostas. (Hmm, 2 plants that survive best with benign neglect). Jem was destroying the camellias in To Kill a Mockingbird. I guess they are the old lady flowers.

And I'm 31 and love hydrangeas! I admired a bouquet this week, dotted with coral-colored roses, at Trader Joe's.

I'm only 32 and I'm obsessed with these flowers. And I love that they grow like weeds all over North and West Philly. Something about the acidity of the soil in these parts give us amazing hydrangeas, and I couldn't be happier
