Linda, you summed up my points far more eloquently than I did in the actual post! Not too obvious you're a professional writer. Ahem.
Karen, how could I forget those days at Southwest Swim Club? Great memories with only exception: the time Laurie dived (dove?) into the shallow end and broke her front teeth. Thank heavens she didn't break her neck.
Emily, aren't your boys both heading off to sleepaway camp soon? Don't know if you can fit in a session at Rock Band Camp but we've got M signed up for that starting next week.

Sad to say that I think pool fatigue has set in early with my boys. They just don't have as mUch fun there. I guess marco polo isn't as cool as he used to be. The worst thing is that the alternatives to the pool are really unappealing to parents. Need to come up with something that offers hours of entertainment And isn't bad for you.

First, the Hugh vapor trail is hilarious! Second, the cake with the teddy graham side-stroker -- what a GREAT mom you are! Third, I must say your boys don't take after you. Do you remember how we would faithfully go to the pool, EVERY SINGLE afternoon (unless working at Nowell's Garden Terrace got in the way!) all the way through high school? We HAD to have that golden tan, and used lots of baby oil to get it!!! I think I remember, though, that after junior high, the selection of boys to giggle at and flirt with significantly tapered off. So maybe it's just a high school boy thing!
I enjoyed your post today very much, but then, I always do!

What a beautiful description of the recent curve of family history, Jennifer. Summer traditions seem timeless, but as you make clear here, each year brings subtle changes that add up to a seismic shift in family life. I noticed this very thing last night at our annual fireworks celebration at my brother's Avalon home. Same wonderful people, but older and changed...while the timeless bursts of color filled the night sky.
