Thank you for not adding to your list of travel issues your husband's need to pack his surfboard on the off chance that he'd actually go surfing in November!

Tracie, groan....such a true-to-life memory for those of us with kids or those of us who ever WERE kids, riding with siblings in the back of a car. Stop looking out my side! It's funny only if you're not in the car when the fight is going on. Another favorite involves critiquing the loudness of breathing by others.

You don't know how refreshing it is to hear that brothers find just as many entertaining and creative ways to annoy each other on road trips as sisters do - and that moms all along the eastern coast (maybe nationwide) handle these altercations in as productive a fashion as I do, way down here in Florida. Not quite as refreshing to hear that standing on one's head actually does produce the desired effect, since my usual threat is to skip down the middle of the interstate if they would just stop arguing and bickering for one minute!! So far I have chosen not to resort to it. You've been wise to stick to standing on your head and/or bending over backwards.

Just for the record - my favorite road trip bickering moment came many years ago as we were driving through the Badlands (should have been an omen) and the arguing got so bad that I drew an imaginary line down the center of the mini-van bucket seats with my hand and told each sister not to allow so much as a molecule of ANY body part to cross that line into the other's territory. Several minutes of blissful peace followed, only to to interrupted by a wail of "Mommy! Make her stop LOOKING out my side!!!!"

Hope you have a peaceful trip home!

Hope you make it through Connecticut unscathed. In my experience, the Merritt is ALWAYS a crap shoot. Good luck and thanks for the smiles.
