By far the scariest line here is "conscientious parents." Even now with tweens I wonder where they are, when to intervene and when to let them work it out themselves, how to give them spidey senses that they are developing too slowly for my anxiety prone self.
Congrats to you all for clearing this hurdle. It's good practice for the next ones, right?

I'm not a parent of teens yet but when I am I hope to handle it just exactly like you have. Bravo.

Em, I was going to write on this very topic this week. While we recognize some high school "problems" as silly little dramas that will never be of any consequence, I too have been struck by just how real, and potentially life-changing, many of the issues are. It's gonna be interesting.

wow. Care to give a hot-on-your-parenting-heels mama some times on those conversations you've had with Noah? I totally want to copy what you've got her and pass it off as my own wise advice to my boys.

As usual, Em, you hit it on the head. You and Dave should be really proud of yourselves, and of Noah. Love what The Domestic Goddess calls the "Spidey Sense" - THAT is what you guys have taught him. I'm glad it all worked out and that everyone is safe.

What's awesome is he asked you to pick him up immediately. His spidey sense was tingling and he got the Eff out of there. Good kid you raised. Some kids wouldn't have wanted to look bad or geeky or lame and would have stayed.

Emily,
I cannot tell you how much I enjoy reading your blogposts. This one especially. It is so tough when you see your kids facing down the real life situations...the ones that can have truly lasting effects.

It is good for Noah to know...he is not alone in these situations...and also for us your readers to know that we are not alone either.

Yikes. I know I'm hot on your heels and I worry so much about this next phase ... what a marvel to be able to see all those years of guidance and role-modeling come into play though, no? But so unnerving, so, so scary. xox
