I thought my eyes were tricking me the other night, but now that you mention lightning bugs, I do think I saw our first of the season, too.

I adore lemon meringue pie, in any season.

I love chipmunks. We used to have lots of them around our house. Now they are a rare sight. But we seem to have way more birdlife than before...odd.

Peonies, foxes, robins and ants. Sounds like a Beatrix Potter picture!

We have a robin's nest in the rafters of our porch roof. She scoots each time we approach, but I'm sure we'll hear the chirps of hungry chicks in the near future. A few years back, four were born in the very same spot.

I just moved to a new house that has 14 peony bushes lining a walkway. They are about to burst and I can hardly wait!!

The neighborhood red foxes have been gracing us with their presence quite early the last few mornings, throwing the dog into quite a tizzy.

I too have those glorious pink peonies. The fragrance is hypnotic. I have one large bush in the front bed of my house, and one in the back. I support them with a garden gizmo and pray for little rain to weigh down their top heavy blooming flower heads. As soon as the flowers start opening, I start cutting and bringing in for vases. I save the budding ones for last, not to miss one chance for glory.I blow off the ants I see and pick off the straglers in the sink as I cut for display.I almost weep when the flower petals start to drop a few at a time, onto the table. It's a very short window for this once a year sweet pink time. And I don't really mind an ant or two climbing a wall.
