This will tell you my frame of mind this morning. I loved the line of gummy bears jumping off the plate and want to go buy some so I can do it too.

Linda, I'm inspired to buy more fresh fruits this summer. Mangoes, yes!
So true about the number of opened bags of chips, Patti. Often, our pantry houses several half-finished bags that languish because the contents are mostly crumbs and fragments. I've never heard of Persian cucumbers, will investigate those. And single serve ice cream containers - a brilliant solution to portion management.

The last day of school field trip is today (lunch provided) so there was no packing to be had last night. I felt a sense of relief, but a similar sense of dread, because we are facing the same situation.

Chips get opened first, if there is anything left in the bag it sits forever, thrown over by an increasing number of chip bags that are opened for their "freshness" factor. We have given up on cookies. The Persian cucumbers are a big hit. For the sake of portion control, we have stocked up on single serve ice cream containers and placed a limit of one per day for each kid!

My older son starts football practice next week and I am dreading what that is going to do for his appetite. . . !

Thanks for providing the links for your readers, Jennifer. I was blown away that less than 1/3 of PA kids who need meal subsidies will get them during the summer. We have The Mattie Dixon community cupboard here in Ambler, a place for our local families to turn.
On a happier note, I can report that fresh fruits -- particularly watermelon, mangoes and cantaloupe -- seem to go fastest around here in summer.
