I am living this right now...selling a house. My great Aunt sent me a little statue of St. Joseph. You're suppose to bury it in the backyard to sell your house quickly. I'd never heard of this. She FORGOT to tell me that you're suppose to bury it head down, feet up. I dug up St. Joseph in the POURING rain the day before our open house so he could be buried correctly. Only thing was that I forgot to mark where he was buried the first time, so that required me digging 4 holes in the yard to find him. He's in the ground correctly now.

Ah yes -- you hit the mark here Jess. I remember thinking that our house never looked so good as when we were trying to sell it. Made me feel like we should just "pretend" to move every 5 years so that we can throw stuff out and clean stuff up so that we can enjoy the benefits of our hard work rather than the new owners. Here's hoping for a quick sale!

Hysterical!

Stephen- if you are married, I'd suggest a lot of business travel if your house goes on the market. Wile men may only look at e structure, the aesthetics can give a clue to how the people actually lived in the house ,or how they want you to believe they did.

Hysterical, as always...while I've never made a real estate transaction in my life (because in fact I DO live in my car), I can feel your pain. But don't beat up on yourself for Chuck E. Cheese; after all, Phoebe is exercising (assuming she doesn't drown in the ball pit) there, right? And I agree with Stephen's point about the illogical mindset of so many prospective buyers...yet if throwing a few pots of geraniums on your front steps seals the deal, so be it.

I don't understand why how you keep the house would affect a buyer. A stupid, sentimental buyer maybe, but not someone with any imagination. It's not like your stuff is going to still be there after they move in or that you'll be still playing housemaid. Only the structure matters, things that would have to be replaced like appliances, and stuff that would have to be redecorated like the color of the walls and carpeting to the new buyer's tastes.
