I wonder what's in the purse. I see someone who posted already had the same thought I did.
I think it's full of M&Ms and fruit snacks.

I never thought of the possibility that the purse contains Britain's nuclear codes. But of course!

Hey Jen..pretty sure the Queen's purse is the equivalent of the President's 'football'...so if she opens it she may be getting ready to push some buttons or something. Watch youself sister! ;o)

My dog knows that a purse means I am leaving, in the car. He loves to accompany me and I just can't ignore those sad big brown eyes at the back door!

As far as the kids, well, when I wear eye make-up they ask where i'm going looking goth!

As a devoted Anglophile, yes, I saw The Queen and loved it, and recently was glued to the series The Royal Family, which showed the Queen doing her state room routine with many visitors. I'm sure you're right about the country houses - it must be such a relief to dress down, put on a headscarf, and walk the Corgis. Agreed, I loved Michelle Obama's gesture too.

Well probably Her Majesty (of whom I am a (fairly) loyal subject) doesn't feel terribly 'at home' when she's in the state rooms of the Palace. I think she probably *does* have her hairbrush and lipstick in the bag, so as not to go down miles of corridors to get back to her own bathroom if she needs to brush her hair. Though probably the ladies-in-waiting help her with that anyway.
I think that's why she's so fond of spending time in her country houses where she can potter around in wellies (gumboots?) and take the dogs for long walks. Have you seen the film "The Queen" with Helen Mirren in the lead role? No-one knows quite how accurate it was in portraying the Queen "off duty" but it seemed quite believable to me!
I thought it was great that Michelle Obama put her arm round Her Maj's shoulders and HM reciprocated and put her arm round Michelle's waist!
