My dog’s name is Ellie, but I call her Smelly or Bud. My husband usually calls her Emma or Phoebe, which are the names of our children.

Glad to know we’re not the only ones who do this; however, it is NOT limited to animals in my family.

Our dog is Molly, but we call her Miss Moo and Mrs. Kisses. Our cat is Rhubarb, but she is more often referred to as Scooby-Ruby-Doo or The Littlest Kiddle (which must be sung, not said).

My sister Rebecca carried her invented nickname through college and into adulthood, and her nieces and nephews know her only as Aunt Boo. My sister Jenn was called Junk, Pile (evolved from Junk Pile), Sniff (“Jennisniffer” has a keen sense of smell), and Fenny, the latter two of which are still used regularly by family members.

I will not reveal any of my nicknames!

When I met Chris, he had a cat named Abby, which was short for his ex-girlfriend’s pretentious choice of Abercrombie & Fitch. Chris only ever called the cat Ween or Weeniehead.

My dog’s given name is Robbie, but we call him The Robster, Skinny Legs (after his most recent grooming adventure!), and Mr. Pink Ears.

Toby looks adorable! One of our cats given name is Rosey but we tend to call her fluffy, fluff ball and Nosy Rosey. She literally is a walking pile of fur. I find balls of it everywhere and think I should start a collection to make yarn with. Our other kitty, Tika, is referred to as Barfy. She has severe food allergies and has broken in our carpet well.
