Oh, and did I mention the yip-yip aliens?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_jmwW2NUSI
My kids are petrified by this one, alas.
The disembodied hand always got me.
And the little girl kissing Kermit makes me cry almost as much as Big Bird and Mr. Hooper. Poor Big Bird does all
In the new school category, I find the Feist 1-2-3-4 song even more compelling than her regular version.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ9WiuJPnNA
And I loved the vibe of this counting video, better only when followed immediately by the Spanish version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euJmyBimDBM
Enough. Here's the funny thing: my kids will pick almost anything over Sesame Street on PBS now. But if they hear me play an old school Sesame thing on the computer? They drop whatever they are doing and come watch. Strange.

And PS to Elizabeth--That was always a Big Bird/Mr. Hooper schtick. He would call him almost anything that rhymed with Hooper. And Mr. Hooper would get all fake-annoyed.

As much as I love Mah Nah Mah Nah, the little dude has another huge hit with his hipper-than-thou band:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei1DvIgW_PU&feature=fvw
Hey Y'all!
My parents watched the first episode with me and immediately bought their first color tv. I watch the first episode with my kids and am instantly nostalgic for the actual grit shown in the cityscape. Thanks for this!

How come Big Bird refers to Mr. Hooper has Mr. LOOPER only at the end of the clip? I'm so confused -- is he forgetting Mr. Hooper already?

I can't believe I waited this late in the day to watch the clips. You took me from tears to laughter to nostalgia in ten short minutes. Thanks for the ride!

I would so dearly love to write something thoughtful and insightful and possibly even moving about Sesame Street, which I love, but I can't because I'm distracted by two things:

1) I'm glad I'm not the only parent who is raising a potty mouth (and it's TOTALLY my fault)

2) "Debuted" is one of the most irritating words to read in the English language.
