My faves were Creepers. They were sort of platform flats that made my trmendous boat feet look even more huge! I also loved the 80s trend of the low cut flat boots and you had to have (minimally) 2 boot chains and a bandana wrapped around them. Don’t know what I am talking about? Find an early photo of Duran Duran. I blame them almost exclusively for this fashion “don’t”

I don’t get the fascination with Crocs. I was given a pair (shoes as a gift? yes, odd) and do wear them occasionally, but they seem to attract all manner of detritus from the ground and, unlike with a flip-flop, said detritus gets stuck in the shoe bed, causing you to walk around on it all day. And they’re not exactly pretty to look at!

My all time favorites were Top Siders, followed closely by my Dr. Scholl sandals!

The worst were the stiletto heeled Candies – thankfully I met my husband freshman year in college, and in an effort not to tower over him abandoned those shoes!

Wow…what a trip down (your) memory lane. I used to be a flip-flop addict, but have discovered that there are simply occasions where they DON’T WORK. As for my youth? I remember when those plastic jelly sandals were all the rage. My Mom wouldn’t let us wear them because she thought they were tacky. Sad to say…she was probably right.

I love my old Doc Martins. I still pull them out occasionally when I try and pretend to be hip and living in NYC again.

I love my good old fashioned flip flops and my converse sneakers. Now they come without laces. Who would have thought?

You really brought back memories on this one, Jennifer! I had a pair of earth shoes back in high school. One correction: mine were dark brown. I don’t think the name was about being good for the earth, but rather being good for YOU as you traveled on terra firma. (Remember, they were aimed at the “Me Generation.”) As for desert boots, I actually created one in clay, very realistic looking, one of my great artistic achievements — and gave it to twin boys who wore desert boots almost every day (and whom I and many girls had a crush on). Makes me wonder if Matt and Phil still have that shoe….

Earth shoes hyper-extend the calf muscles (like walking up hill ALL day long).

So I am wearing my earth shoes today. I think they are even called earth shoes. Toe is higher than the heel. They are marketed as being good for your legs. Had them over a year and I really like them — but took a bit getting used to them. The fact that they are fur lined helps a bit.
