I think the George Clooney gloom was an act but if so, there was never a punchline.

I agree, Alec Baldwin has aged way more than Kevin Bacon. Farrah got left out so they could put Michael Jackson in. Not bad enough that he died just hours after she did, stealing her thunder back in June, but he had to eclipse her at the Oscars as well.

Great observations, Jennifer. I watched the whole thing primarily to make sure the Academy gave Jeff Bridges the Oscar. If they hadn’t, I was going to do something rash. He was so good. And he’s just a cool dude. Always has been. I’ve liked him ever since he played the sidekick in “Thunderbolt & Lightfoot” with Clint Eastwood.

The John Hughes tribute/montage was interesting. I had forgotten that Alec Baldwin was the slimy best friend of Kevin Bacon in “She’s Having A Baby,” a movie that struck a huge chord with me at the time. In the clip, Kevin Bacon looked just the same. Alec Baldwin not so much.

I love James Taylor, but I’m not sure why he needed to be onstage playing that live. Too distracting. Just cue the CD. And why did they leave Farrah Fawcett out of the memorial tribute? She did some movie work. Who can forget “Logan’s Run.”

By the way, I thought the woman who pulled a Kanye and hijacked the poor producer’s acceptance speech was Joy Behar from “The View.” Or Fred Armisen doing Joy Behar.

Jennifer, can we please watch the next major cultural event together? Your observations always crack me up…perhaps because they echo my own. (Flattery or narcissism? I’ll let you decide.)

I’m with Elizabeth about the Kanye moment.

The biggest laugh for me was when Tyler Perry said that Alec Baldwin (?) had just mistaken him for the kid from the Blind Side.

And what was up with George Clooney the sour puss? Every time they cut to him he was positively grouchy.

When I lived in NYC I remember being so tired watching the awards. hear in Calif. they were over by 9:00.

I just love watching the Oscars. I get real mean if anyone interrupts me.

Thanks for the explanation on Elinor Burkett’s speech hi-jacking. That explains it but it still doesn’t excuse it. I can’t imagine having the gall to do that! And it seems counter-productive. She wants people to be sympathetic to her plight but just ends up coming off crazy and mean.

Elizabeth, OMG, you’re right, that interrupting witch was just awful. We thought she had crashed her way on stage at first. How incredibly rude – who does she think she is, Kanye?

And Emily, I missed Kathy Ireland. Darn!

We watched ’til the end and were delighted when Barbra Streisand said “I guess the time has come” or words to that effect as she opened the best director envelope. My other personal highlight was the quiet perfection of James Taylor singing “In My Life” on stage as they did the yearly “in memoriam.” I would’ve liked even more banter — and a little singing and dancing — from Steve and Alec; they were great but the overall energy of the show was a little low-key for me.

I have to agree with you on Best Hair. I turned to Maikael at one point and said, “Who IS that guy behind Quentin Tarrantino! Whoever he is, his hair is AWESOME!” I also had the thought that Kathryn Bigelow should have shouted, “I’m the Queen of the World!” although she’s clearly the introvert of that ex-couple. I’m SO GLAD James Cameron was shut out for the major awards.

You did miss one category, though.
