I am so thrilled that you went on this trip and the small bits in your blog did bring me to tears. I am looking forward to more and probably will find it necessary to finally go on Facebook to see all of your pictures!

Very nice post. We're trying to hold onto the spirit of our trip while adjusting to a regular weekly routine. It's been hard to explain the layers of feelings, and the spiritual and personal impact of our shared Israel experience. The "wet-nap incident" jokingly underscores that Shidos was central to that experience. I cannot help but think of him and hear his voice when I recall the places we went and the things we saw. I like to think that we have a new "cousin" in Israel (who we can now all stalk on Facebook...) Looking forward to sharing our pictures and memories .... (an upcoming B'nai Mitzvahs ...)

This was both funny and fascinating. How lucky for your boys to have parents (and grandparents) who dare to venture beyond Disney World! This inspires me to think of family vacations (when the girls are a litttttlle older) that show my kids a world beyond their own safe haven. Looking forward to hearing about your adventure(s)! xoxo

Great post, Em. I'm wishing I'd met Shidos, and I can't wait to hear about the unfortunate St. Peter's fish incident. Loved that line about why it took Moses 40 years in the desert to find Jerusalem. PLEASE, seriously, if you ever go to Israel again, I'd love to join you.

P.S. Some might say that the "all-knowing, completely benevolent, objective guide" we can trust to tell us what path to take when we enter unknown territory … someone who has our best interests at heart-- is God. Heck, you were just in the Holy Land. I think He'd like it if you gave Him some props!

Em:
You express perfectly the many feelings I have and the sadness at the trips completion but complete joy at having shared so much together as a family. I will never be able to sing or hear "hallelujah" again without the tears flowing! To say that I am going through the biggest feeling of "empty nest" syndrome I have ever felt is an understatement. Miss you all and cannot wait to share stories and feelings for many years to come.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear of your (amazing) experience. Our visit was extraordinary as well, and I am still letting it sink in. I'm dismayed that we didn't meet, but somehow it feels meaningful to me to know we were there at the same time. xox

Shalom! and Shabbat Shalom and Sallam, Peace, Hello and goodby. It was a great spiritual journey in more ways than one. For mom and me a dream come true, to share this wonderful heritage and land with all of our children and grandchildren. You will return someday to Israel to further the journey. Remeber, we only saw 1/3 of the State of Israel. Imagine what Shidos can tell us about the other 2/3's. We Love you all so very dearly! Papa
