What a perfect way to convey how I feel about my girls growing up. *sniff* I do wish I didn’t know about last times….but then again, would we cherish ALL moments as much if we knew we’d only keep repeating them over and over? I wonder…

Well said Emily. I think “last times” and “happiness” share the trait of being recognized only in the rear-view mirror. I think there is something to be said for appreciating the now of each moment so that the good times are what we hold onto and it is less important whether those good times are firsts or lasts.

And from the child’s point of view — ‘the last time Mom had that quivery look on her face when I was in elementary school’. Knowing that our children and other loved ones share in the experience makes it easier. Wonderful post.
