What is it about Milk Duds? I haven't touched one since I was 5, when my dad took me to a movie without Mom and found out for himself why I SHE didn't let me eat a whole box of candy by myself. It was the last time I recall the two of us going to a movie by ourselves, and the last time I ate a Milk Dud.

And then there's that Seinfeld episode with the Milk Duds and the surgery . . . .

Glad your tooth is OK - even with the lost crown sounds like you made out better than the fainting concert dad!

I did end up meeting the guitarist, who the band kept heckling in the banter about his increasingly sweaty shirt. Just missed Neko though.

So funny! I must say I paid my due. . . I escorted my girls to a Justin Timberlake concert, a Blackeyed Pea Concert. . . and so many local bands in venues that were questionable, to put it nicely. One time I went with holey jeans and a tie-dyed t-shirt, and one of my daughter's friend said "Oh, you look cool, Mrs. Rubio" and I said, "Thanks, I'm in my teenager costume." Now that I think about it, those times were pretty much fun. . . as long as I took cotton balls to stuff in my ears!

Nope. That's an actual ad I remember. I also remember having had a file with torn-out ads from the Bulletin and Inquirer (let me guess that they also ran in the Daily News) but that file, like the Bulletin, has been lost.

Many years later, after moving to Seattle, I happened to work in an office across from a similar theater, with similar acts (I am told) but a slightly different schtick: no ads, but marquees that advertised the acts always in a deliciously topical fashion -- e.g., on St. Patrick's Day, "Erin go Braughless." And so on.

Many funnier ones that I no longer recall.

But I (hugely) digress.

LOL. I went to a U2 concert a few years ago and the guy behind me was so distressed that I DIDN'T stand up that he grabbed me and pulled me upright. I swayed, but did not faint.

Ed, did you make up Rhoda Gravure? If so, you should have been employed by the Trocadero. "You gotta future here, kid."
And Linda, what a great concert. I would have been absolutely the right demographic for that one. Did you get to sit down the whole time? That's the height of luxury for me now. Standing at concerts = grumpiness.

It all could have been worse.

You could have been dropping Malcolm and Ian et al off at the Trocadero of old -- back in the day (the 70's) when it had slumped to the point of being home to a series of strippers ("adult" movies, too), lavishly promoted in the papers with seductive names (since THEY probably weren't) and descriptors like "Rhoda Gravure - She'll make an impression on you!" and "Lynn Oleum - She'll floor ya!" And worse.

"The New Pornographers"? Hardly measures up.

This is hysterical, Jennifer! I think the key to feeling young at concerts is to go to the ones where people your age and older will be in attendance. Like Kevin and I did just last night -- and we can report that James Taylor and Carole King rocked the Wachovia Center. It was fantastic! I sang all the way home in the car. (We had driven separately, so Kevin's ears were not assaulted.)

Oh man -- I'm wondering when I might actually be ready to drop my kids at a concert by themselves. And if I liked the band, I may have insisted on joining them -- but I would have stayed 20 rows away (ok - maybe 10... or 3). Thanks for pioneering this trail (and many others) for me!
