Nursery school visit to the dentist is brilliant. This one is two, but you probably won't see it in this day and age. My friend here in this old west town had a great grandfather who ran his dentist business upstairs and his mortuary at street level.

Hi Jennifer, Our dentist/orthodontist had business savvy as well. When Griff was 3, his nursery school took a field trip to visit the dentist. He let the kids play in the chairs, pick out cheap prizes and all that stuff. Griff couldn't wait to go back. I'd have to be Mommie Dearest not to take him there when it was time for his first dental appointment. Three kids and one set of braces later . . . I know we've helped his kid go to college. (Vic sees him at Lehigh.)

We lived in Utah for three years and I thought it was very clever of the Mormon church to have chapels across the street from every high school. The Mormon kids were allowed to leave the school for an hour each day and get their 'religion' credit (or some such thing I'd never heard of before) in their own church building.

We were not Mormon and moved away the year our oldest started high school so I never got that completely figured out. But I've never seen anything similar, in any other state we've lived in. I loved the Mormon people but always wondered how that worked with 'separation of church and state' and all of that.

We also did the cattle drive orthodontist for our oldest and her teeth ended up straight but her actual 'bite' was off balance and it has led to some pretty nasty TMJ issues. We are doing a lot more research now that number two needs braces.

Boy, the issues sure don't cease, do they? :)

When I moved into Lebabon, OR I was amazed that someone had the ingenuity to open a locksmith shop in the Walmart parking lot! He spent a lot of time helping people who had locked their keys in their car.

Unfortunately, Walmart moved about 2 years ago, and a church bought their old building ... I often wonder how he's doing in a church parking lot ...

Jennifer, I so relate to the dentist/doctor persona you are describing -- and I think I hate them as much as you! I never trust a healthcare professional that goes by Dr. Insert First Name. It's either first name or Dr. Last Name, bub -- none of this in between stuff. And the "Mom" and "Dad"? Yuck.

And, totally awesome about the orthodontist's location! Brilliant! I went to a guy in another town 45 minutes away because he was the closest board certified ortho. and my mom was all obsessed with that.

Ah yes -- this is where Noah is getting his treatment. Of course being the protective mother that I am -- I STILL show up for his appointments, but I think that will change once we get into a routine. They have a special sign out sheet at the school for Dr Forwood -- who already knows Noah's name. As does his daughter who is in practice with him.
