In our family it’s a freaky parallel universe of repeat names. My husband has 2 sisters named Kathy and Carol. I have 2 sisters named Kathy and Carol. The Carols are married to J’s (John and Jim), while the Kathys are married to T’s (Travis and Tom). The Carols each have 2 son, while the Kathys produce nothing but daughters. Husband has a neice Jennifer who married a Jason. I have a neice Jennifer who married a Jason. Jennifers are the same age, majored in the same thing in college, had sons the same years, follwed by a daughter the same year. He has an Aunt Mary, and so do I. I could go on, but you get the picture. It’s freaky, it’s confusing, it’s our family.

We are collecting Joshua’s. First, my husband, next my cousin’s son, finally, my niece is marrying one next month! (and they are all Joshua, no Josh’s)

My son and a cousin thrice removed share the same first name, middle initial and last name. They are eight months apart in age and live 30 miles away from each other. Us parents have committed to covering for each other’s kid whenever the call comes in from the authorities.

Thanks to all who chimed in on this post! I agree with Emily, I am a huge part of the problem – the world is over-run with Jennifers – and I miss the heady pre-1970, pre-Love Story days when the name was rare. I envy those families who have colorful names for relatives like Baby Tommy (now huge) and Aunt Babe. It sounds so madcap and fun. Keep your comments coming!

So…I will enter this into your blog comments since I already facebooked you this…..My Aunt Jeanne had a brother John and a brother Paul, she married a John and then a Paul and then had a son whom she named John Paul!!! Crazy.
