Wish I had known about your theory when years ago I had to trade in my sleek, teal Triumph TR-6 for a Toyota station wagon; might have helped in the sense-of-self area. Also wish you’d been able to share your theory with the world of chicks (you could say that then) outside my shiny, white, definitely low-expectation car. Apparently they didn’t get the message.

Marketers still would rather have the car, rather than reduced expectations deriving FROM the car, do the job for you. Picture this: major billboards for the 2005 Dodge Magnum station wagon. Big, bad, bold photo of the car. Headline: LESS SOCCER MOM, MORE WHO’S YOUR DADDY.

This is hilarious, Emily! (And that picture? Me-ow!) We’ve got two kids crammed into the back of our compact car right now and are starting to hear the siren song of the mini-van. I’ve resisted, but now I’m starting to come around. Too sexy for my mini-van? Now that’s an idea I can get behind!

I wonder what my 1994 Saturn SL coupe says about me?! I think I’m DEFINITELY sexy enough for that! It’s funny, because for a brief moment Maikael and I considered getting a new-used car just because we’re having a baby. Then we knocked some sense into ourselves…but we’ll see how long we hold out I’ll keep an eye out for the aliens (good thing I live so close to Roswell!).

Love it, Em. Almost as much as I love my sexy Odyssey! Sometimes when I’m checking out a good looking guy at a stop light, I’ll delude myself into thinking, “He’s surprised that such a sexy lady is driving a mini-van!”
