Sarah, funny about those mysterious cookie cutter shapes. The ones from the side are definitely not obvious, esepcially to a child! I'm not sure we have a camel, but we do have a pig shape that we got when Ian was in 3rd grade and presenting a report on Christmas in Sweden. The pig is big there.
Adorable quote about putting the Hanukkah in Christmas, Liz! What a lovely image of the holidays in Bermuda.

I enjoyed what you wrote very much Jennifer. I always love the way your house looks at Christmas. So wonderful that the guys are able to help out and the Reynold's December tradition runs deep in them.

We such a mixed bag in this house; it's all I've known. But when we moved to the island I thought it would be fun to have a small Hanukkah party each year. Without fail, the only two Jewish folks in attendance, were V and me, which really was the beauty of it. A lovely and loving time amongst neighbors.

My friend's precocius little girl, the hands down Dreydl spinning winner every year from the time she was five, summed up December tradition at Hoadley for herself and for my little family too. As she walked out the door she hugged me and said, "Mrs. Knight, as far as I'm concerned, it just wouldn't be Christmas without Hanukkah." Ho, Ho, Ho...

Love seeing the cookie cutters! My grandmother would travel from Michigan to Ohio with a suitcase filled with many fruitcake tins of cookies each year. She was always honest about it having been a lot of work! It's probably not so much fun when you are alone. Like you she had a star, a tree, and a bell, and also a wreath. I remember one shape that was a mystery to me as a small child. I recently saw this shaped Christmas cookie and realized it was a full length silhouette view of Santa (from the side), showing the large sack of toys on his back. Good to know! Finally! Also, we couldn't find a camel shaped cutter for a long time. Then one Chrismas season, they were "in." Camel cookie cutters were available everywhere in multiple sizes!

                                                Tradition….Tradition….Tradition

Wanting to burst into song-
For our traditions all year long!
When cookie cutters appear-
ou know any tradition is surely here!
Baking during holiday time with one’s family –
Brings back one’s never forgotten golden memory.
The excitement, joys of a family filled with tradition that bakes-
Will always continue that tradition forever that never brakes!
Those smells, happy times of one’s traditional baking past-
Fills us with lifetime memories of love that will always last.
Remembering one’s Grandma and Mother’s cookie or cake treat?
They’re etched by loving feelings making one’s childhood complete.
To remember one’s first baking experience for sure-
Forever reminded by holiday baking photos that appear yearly some more!
