Lindsay! Wow. Instead of checking your watch or phone in the elevator, you can watch TV. And this morning our NY taxi driver instantly switched on the TV in the back seat, did you notice? It just interfered with our conversation and was not welcome at all.

I have seen screens in office building elevators and wondered why that would be entertaining for such a short ride. It was explained to me that it made the elevator a less awkward place because everyone had a place to look, for heaven’s sake!

And until the comment from Single Hand Washer, I did not know that men’s rooms ever had the newspaper front page on display! That is so cool. We don’t get little frippery in the ladies’ loo.

Flat screens in the Mens’ room! Now men will spend as much time in their respective loo as women. Men are keen to re-take the equal square footage for restrooms low ground that we slowly ceded because of the fair sex’s facility requirements. Next Table games like roulette and craps will be available for partaking.
Are you old if you recall the pleasure of reading the local newspaper’s front page behind a spit guard in the WC?

For what it’s worth, I, too, noticed the exquisite use of “fewer.” Kudos to the Ac-a-me!

Don’t know why, but that reminded me of a formal city sign posted on the perimeters of small parks throughout Seattle — at least five years ago when I still lived there. It read something to the effect of:

CITY PARK
LEAVE NO LITTER WHATEVER.

Irritated the crap out of me because, of course, it should have said WHATSOEVER. So one night, just to make myself feel better, I snuck out to the park/sign near my home with Sharpie in hand and inserted carefully drawn periods after the words LITTER and WHATEVER.

And it was good.

Good idea, Ian can truthfully say his photos have been published online – Facebook and MOB.
And you’re right, Anne, thank you for noticing I’m spending too much time at ACME. I’ve even run into your husband there. At least, as you point out, they got the LESS/FEWER sign corrected.
Elizabeth, ask your husband if Albuquerque has flat screens in the mens’ rooms. A guy just told me that is the case in the local sports bars.

Wow, PA has a leg-up on Albuquerque. I can (happily?) report that I have not (yet) seen a TV screen in my grocery store or gas station, and that my YMCA is WAY too cheap to have treadmills with their own TV screens (although that’s one screen I would like). But I’m sure it’s coming. PS: I love that episode where the family from Arkansas stumbles into the head shop in San Fran and has absolutely NO IDEA where they’re at!

The Jetsons reference keeps coming up. We were recently discussing how Skype is like the Jetsons movie phone (Jane would put on a fake made up face if a call came in while she was still in her curlers).

Can Ian cite a photography seminar on his gap year resume now?

On a good note, I find great solace that the express line now states 15 items or “fewer”, the 15 items or “less” grammar has always been a pet peeve of mine. A good contrast to the misspelled stationery at the co-op.

J, you seem to be spending a lot of time at the ACME lately, there’s another post for you sometime.

Ian was my terribly embarrassed photographer. Reluctant is not the word.
Your Jetsons reference is lost on me because I was raised in a TV-free household. My, how things change.
