This guy Leigh sounds brilliant! And how do you know him? I have a few "Chick tracts" that are oh-so-satirize-able. Maybe for a future blog post...

My favorite card every year is from Leigh Catchepaugh in Agawam MA. He makes the most AMAZING cards. The one I remember most was an incredible parody of those religious booklets that get handed to you by JWs. The cover was the Eight Reindeer of the Apocalypse. The inside was laid out the way the biblical phrases are in the pamphlets, but then when you lookes closely the phrases were quotes from The Night Before Christmas and also The Grinch, but he had "Biblicized them". Every now and then, I try to copy it, but then give up halfway through and buy a couple boxes of cards at Walgreens.

Last Year a friend who is a graphic designer put together a card that was actually a DVD of "the naughty list" (photos of her kids crying) and "the nice list" (photos of her kids smiling). It was cool! That said, how do I get on your Christmas card list? I really appreciate thoughtful cards.

Emily, that wonderful card you remember was designed by Patrick King...he who designed this blog's banner. A multi-talented dude.
I never heard the story of the mystery NYC card - that is such a cool idea.
Linda, thanks for sending the memoreis of Midi. Were Emily and Mabel old ladies? How funny that the former became a cool name again - somehow I can't imagine that happening with Mabel (my own great-grandmother's name)...until a celebrity uses it for their newborn.

My Uncle Emidio ("Midi", as we called him) was a fine artist as well as a cartoonist. His "Emily and Mabel" cartoon strip in the Phila. Inquirer was quite popular for a time (before I was born)... and for many years thereafter, Uncle Midi would send original Christmas cards featuring his humorous spinster characters.
Here's a link that shows him. Don't worry, the "strippers" refers to comic strip artists!

Years ago, when I was living in Manhattan, I received a Christmas card from a complete stranger. They said every year they picked a few names out of the phone book and sent them each a card. Very touching. It put a smile on my face throughout the season.

Not to be a complete suck up - but I love your xmas cards. I especially the one from the year you had the hiking /camping pictures. That was a nice little booklet. Most memorable - and not necessairly in a good way -- was the holiday note that went with one card that systematically disparaged every family member (written by their mother). That was a keeper.
