Despite tangential personal connections to the Lockerbie flight, I'm ok with the prisoner's release because frankly, he didn't have much to do with it in the first place and was scapegoated. If I thought he were guilty, I would be less ready to send him home, because I think of every person on that flight who didn't have the comfort of family members and loved ones with them when they perished. I have real trouble getting past that.

As to Vick, I'm furious the Eagles signed him because now it is a matter of discussion Every Single Game all year and it's not a conversation I'm ready to have with my kids. So we're Eagles-free this year. And I'd be more willing to forgive the Eagles for hiring him if they could show me five other felons anywhere on payroll. But I would bet you large sums of money that to be, say, a concessions worker or cleanup crew member, you can't have a prison record.

So maybe I'm not the forgiving person I like to think I am. Hmm. Good topic du jour!

I agree: I try to practice forgiveness as a general matter of course. Holding grudges weighs us down in every sense, and makes it hard to lead our lives fully. But I have a few people who I've tried and tried to forgive, but just can't seem to. I try my best to put them out of my mind and move forward.

I'm good at forgetting, but not forgiving.

Or wait.

maybe I'm good the other way around.

It really depends on the situation I guess.
