I took me a few years to realize that hiding in the back of the pack in Dodge Ball was not a good strategy, as you inevitably become the last man standing and the whole game depends on you to catch the ball and bring in the rest of your team. Which was usually the point where I would get nailed in the face.

Great insights as always, Emily! Donny Deutsch (whom I really like; he's often on MSNBC's Morning Joe) is very proud of his agency's success with resurrecting the Punch Buggy campaign, and extending it to all VWs. I agree with him on a lot of his media and political commentary, but not on this ad campaign and the punching game that has ensued. Deutsch is a Wharton grad, btw.

Growing up in the Midwest, we called this game "Slug Bug". Same game, just different name. I remember when I yelled "slug bug" in a car full of NYC kids, they thought I was insane.

Em,

This is so true. Your comment about Truth or Dare, so accurate and funny!

I drive a beetle and am not happy with the behavior of some children in response to the sight of the car. I like your rules better. It's a happy, fun car. Maybe a hug!

What is the origin of punch buggy? Am I missing some cultural reference?

Be Well,
Carol*
