Chipping away at 50 cents for that onesie - LOL! And for a GOOD CAUSE. Exactly what I'm talking about. I understand that bargaining can be fun, but it's not like putting one over on the venal dealer who's already making a markup of 500%. Sheesh indeed.

I <3 HKF! That's a shame about those rude customers. It's not like the library has 8 fundraisers a year like the elementary school! :P The same thing happens when I work the used children's clothing booth at my church's tailgate sale--the money raised goes to the nursery school's scholarship fund, so go ahead, try to talk me down from 50 cents for that onesie and still feel good about yourself... sheesh.

I am in favor of raising the price every time some chisler tries to get you down. Take 10 cents? On second thought, the hankie is now 50 cents. Of course, I have these thoughts after I submit to the money wavers.

I recently paid $125 for a used lawnmower; exactly what the owner asked. Can you believe that I didn't offer a lot less?

Having just spent eight months traveling the world, where bargaining is commonplace, I've learned a lot about the art of haggling. Whether in Istanbul's famous Grand Bazaar or a tiny stall in Puno, Peru, there is an etiquette to bargaining. The process should always be fun, lighthearted, and respectful, never devolving into throwing money at people. Unfortunately, we don't have much of a chance to practice our bargaining skills as much as other citizens of the world, but we could clearly use a lesson! I like the idea of upmarking the items: now you're really playing the bargaining game!
