It is genetic. Their 9 y/o New England cousin, Sam, is a prime example. He puts the fan in "fanatic". No day is complete w/o Sports Center. He even reads the crawl at the bottom of the screen. When Jason Varitek went through final contract negotiations last week with the Red Sox, both parents went to Sam for the final update on the outcome. I was one of those die-hard NE kids you mentioned in your post. Still, not to the extent Sam takes it. The kid would watch a cable cricket match from India just to pass the time. I have had to duct tape the plastic rim on the basketball hoop on his bedroom door twice from the slam dunks. All this said, he has other "interests". These might be observed in the slack jawed expression that covers his face when he plays with his Sony DS (Thanks Grammy and Papa!!) At such times he has been overheard saying: "Noah knows this really cool move on this game ...."

Sometimes he reads.
